Balmain's first office was established in Sydney in 1979 by Michael Holm. Since then Balmain has grown to include a total of eight offices across Australia and New Zealand.
The Sydney office is both the largest operational centre as well the corporate headquarters.
Sydney office houses a range of origination teams, including a number of founding partners who have been with Balmain for more than 15 years. The culture and expertise of the office has been reinforced in more recent years with the selective acquisition of new partners from the ranks of senior bankers with proven execution capabilities. Since it's inception, the volume of the Sydney office partners has steadily grown as have their loyal and prosperous clients.

Parramatta office was established as the first satellite office branching out from the Sydney office to assist in the important role of servicing our western and south western Sydney client base.
Parramatta office has four partners, Terry Leckie, Phillip Cunningham, Zac Mircevski and Adrian Crestani who manage an experienced and enthusiastic team. Parramatta focus on client service and providing the latest market information to assist clients and business partners meet their future challenges in the rapidly changing financial environment.
Balmain had always wanted to capitalise on the strong growth and opportunities which existed in the Central Coast and Hunter Regions of NSW. In 2000, Balmain did just that by appointing Gavin Drummond to open an office.
Gavin was joined shortly thereafter by Phil Jenkins and Matthew Castle.
With a diverse cross section of skills and experiences the Central Coast Hunter office is well placed to successfully manage the placement of all types of debt and equity structures for all property types and business assets.
Melbourne Office was established in 1997 following the burgeoning growth of Institutional (non-bank) lenders in the commercial property/mortgage sector. These new dynamic lending Institutions sought geographic diversity to satisfy their investor base and ratings agencies and with its healthy industrial, commercial and retail property markets Melbourne was the obvious choice for Balmain to open its first interstate office.
Melbourne office occupies office space on the top floor of one of Melbourne's iconic building and has built a business around a core group of highly qualified and experienced partners and finance analysts adding up to over a centuries worth of commercial property finance expertise. The average employment tenure at Balmain Melbourne office is in excess of 8 years which produces a collegiate office environment and a business culture driven by innovation and success.
Balmain appointed David Jones, Mark Hayes and Luke McKenzie to open its practice in Brisbane in 1997. Later they were joined by John Petzke in their directorship and together they have overseen the creation of one of Balmain’s pinnacle origination businesses.
From its humble beginnings, the Brisbane office now houses eight origination teams. Located in the award winning Riparian Plaza in Brisbane’s CBD, the office continues to grow with partners and associates and the clients that we introduced to Balmain’s unique property finance solutions.

Balmain establishing an office on the Gold Coast in 1997 to take advantage of the regions’ high level of property development and proven record of property capital appreciation.
The office opened with George Vazey in September 1997 and after continued growth was joined by partner Noel Pennell in February 1999. Balmain took up premises at 50 Cavill Ave Surfers Paradise and later that year Heather Munnecke started with the company as office administrator.
In 2006 the office was relocated to a more strategic position at Level 4 “HQ @ Robina” 58 Riverwalk Ave Robina and also secured naming rights for this building.
The partners of the office offer a diverse range of experience in property investment and development funding as well as business financing.
Balmain cemented its commitment to the Canberra region property market by opening its ACT office in The Metropolitan during 2007 with David Kimmorley. In 2010 Col Tennant joined to further build on the skill and service offering. This Balmain office is ideally located in the revitalised Canberra city west precinct.
Balmain New Zealand was established in 2004 to provide first mortgage commercial property funding in New Zealand. Balmain provides a conduit for institutional investment funds in Australia and New Zealand to provide first mortgage funding secured over New Zealand commercial properties.
Balmain New Zealand provides property investors with competitive funding options that are alternative sources of funds to that of New Zealand Banks and also provides direct access to NZ Bank funding options. Balmain has an ongoing commitment to provide new funding alternatives for its borrower and broker clients and is currently developing a new first mortgage institutional fund.
Our success has also been attributable to the strong associations Balmain's New Zealand principals have with all the New Zealand major commercial broker companies dating back nearly 25 years, who provide their borrowers with a competitive range of commercial finance options. Balmain New Zealand also operates a specialist asset management and recovery team complemented with loan servicing solutions to manage commercial, rural and residential mortgage portfolios.
Balmain New Zealand is headed by Andrew Morgan and Bill Lissington who have over 50 years combined experience with some of New Zealand's largest financial institutions including Citibank, HSBC, Rabobank, and Westpac.
